The Archives of the Big Bend is a partner with the Portal to Texas History: a gateway for rare, historical, and primary source materials from or about Texas in digital format. Materials from the Archives holdings include The Alpine Avalanche 1900-1923, W.D. Smithers hand-drawn maps, and Alpine Mayor Dorothy McBride Scrapbooks.
The Handbook of Texas is an encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture. Sponsored by the Texas State Historical Association the online version is full-text searchable and contains the complete text of the six-volume print edition plus approximately 400 additional articles. Entries pertaining to the Big Bend area of Texas, are numerous.
