Archives of the Big Bend unveils new logo

The Archives of the Big Bend, Sul Ross State University, is pleased to unveil its first-ever logo. Senior Archivist Melleta Bell and design firm David Bell Creative of Tyler, Texas, collaborated to produce an image illustrative of the last frontier of Texas. David said, “The design of the logo was inspired by the photo of E. E. Townsend looking over the Rio Grande and the Big Bend. The idea was to ironically tell the story of this vast and diverse region within the mission of the Archives.”

With origins in the early collections of the West Texas Historical and Scientific Society and the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library, the Archives today is part of the Division of Educational and Cultural Resources. Housed in the Library the holdings document the history and culture of the unique and diverse Big Bend of Texas and adjacent borderlands of the US and Mexico from Eagle Pass to El Paso. The approximately 4,000 linear feet include manuscript materials, photographs, maps, oral histories, books, and the University Archives.

For more information contact Senior Archivist Melleta Bell at 432-837-8127.
