DIRECT MAIL

Direct Mail is a free service that enables students, staff, and faculty to borrow circulating physical library materials held in Alpine.

Place requests, renew items, and keep track of your Direct Mail requests with your Interlibrary Loan (ILL) account at Accounts & Apps.

Direct Mail launched in Fall 2023 to better serve distance education students, faculty, and staff. Read more below, or Ask a Librarian for more information.

  • Currently enrolled SRSU graduate and undergraduate students residing outside of Alpine, including distance learners and students enrolled in SRSU @ MC
  • SRSU faculty and staff residing outside of Alpine

Through the Direct Mail service, SRSU-RGC and Distance Learning faculty, staff, and students can borrow:

  • Circulating physical materials from the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library in Alpine
  • Physical materials loaned from other libraries following successful InterLibrary Loan requests

Circulating materials include books from the circulating general collection (WML 3rd Floor), DVDs, and circulating theses.

Non-circulating materials, which are not eligible for Direct Mail, include textbooks, reference books, maps, print periodicals, materials housed in the Archives of the Big Bend, and microfilm/microfiche.

For physical materials owned by/held in Alpine at Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library:

  • Direct Mail requests can be submitted through the Request Pickup/Delivery button when searching in QuickSearch.

For materials from other libraries via Interlibrary Loan:

  • When creating an Interlibrary Loan request, select Direct Mail under Pickup Location.
    • Both forms will prompt you to enter your complete mailing address, including any apartment or suite numbers, city, state, and zip code. A Library staff member will reach out via your preferred method of contact to confirm your address prior to shipment.

Materials requested for delivery through Direct Mail are shipped through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Delivery times are dependent on availability, the type of material, and the distance from the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library in Alpine. Most materials delivered through Direct Mail will arrive in 2-8 business days.

Direct Mail requests include a prepaid United States Postal Service (USPS) return label that you can use to return materials to the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library in Alpine at no charge. You are encouraged to reuse the packaging that came with the borrowed materials. The return label should be cut out and completely taped to the package. Then drop the package off at any USPS location, or in your mailbox for USPS pickup. The return of materials can take anywhere between 2-5 business days.

We can also arrange for campus drop-off on any SRSU campus in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, or Uvalde. Please contact the SRSU Library by phone or email if you would like to return your materials in-person.
