In addition to our special relationship with SWTJC Libraries at the Uvalde, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass campuses, SRSU Librarians work to make library resources, services, and assistance available to all Distance Education (DE) cohorts, such as SRSU @ Midland College.
Students and faculty taking SRSU coursework at a distance tend to have more access to library resources: the library resources from their home institution as well as library resources from SRSU Library.
How is Distance Education defined at SRSU?
Distance Education is defined as a web-based class, a class that is broadcast from the Alpine campus to another location, or a class that is taught at a location other than the Alpine campus.
The following statement should appear on all Distance Education Syllabi:
Students enrolled in distance education courses have equal access to the university’s academic support services, library resources, and instructional technology support. For more information about accessing these resources, visit the SRSU website. Students should submit online assignments through Blackboard or SRSU email, which require secure login information to verify students’ identities and to protect students’ information. The procedures for filing a student complaint are included in the student handbook. Students enrolled in distance education courses at Sul Ross are expected to adhere to all policies pertaining to academic honesty and appropriate student conduct, as described in the student handbook. Students in web-based courses must maintain appropriate equipment and software, according to the needs and requirements of the course, as outlined on the SRSU website.
Students, staff, and faculty are considered “off-campus” when they are not on the Alpine, Uvalde, Del Rio, or Eagle Pass SRSU campuses. While off-campus, Distance Education (DE) students and faculty should use their LoboID and password when prompted to log in while using SRSU Library resources.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND ScanIT
InterLibrary Loan of physical items to campuses other than Uvalde, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass must be performed through a public library. In lieu of InterLibrary Loan (physical item lending), Distance Education students and faculty may use their LoboID and password to request ScanIt, scanned copies of articles and book chapters (to the extent allowed by copyright policies).
